Introduction

****This course has essential learning requirements – NSW Emergency Management Program & Intro to Emergency Management****

Using a risk treatment strategy, learners will acquire the skills and knowledge to contribute to the selection, planning, implementation and management of evacuations in a community experiencing one or more disasters.

On completion of this program, learners will be able to:

  • outline the principles of evacuation management and have a practical appreciation of their application
  • apply the legislative, policy and accountability framework underpinning evacuation in an emergency management context
  • apply the NSW State Emergency Management Plan, Evacuation Management Guidelines
  • contribute to the management of an evacuation and develop an evacuation action plan
  • identify key issues and considerations in decision making at all stages of managing an evacuation
  • identify the key issues in each stage of the evacuation process – Decision, Warning, Withdrawal, Shelter and Return.

This course is for paid and volunteer emergency management personnel with a leadership role responsible for planning evacuations, conducting evacuations, or providing resource and/or functional area support to evacuations.
