Introduction

This course has recommended pre-learning – NSW Emergency Management Program

The Introduction to Emergency Management course gives an overview of the emergency management roles and responsibilities of relevant government and community agencies in NSW and the general concepts and structure of emergency management under the NSW Emergency Management Arrangements.

On completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • reinforce and apply the key concepts of emergency management
  • identify appropriate methods of conducting an all hazards, risk and vulnerability analysis for the organisation or community
  • identify and implement appropriate prevention/mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery strategies
  • explain and use a multi-agency approach to distinguish between the roles and responsibilities of key agencies and organisations at different stages of the comprehensive approach
  • outline implications of emergency management requirements for organisational planning, policies, procedures, systems and resource allocation
  • describe strategies for building disaster resilience within the community
  • examine emergency management plans and how these practically apply at a local level
  • identify strategies to prepare and engage stakeholders/organisations and communities
  • practical appreciation of the various roles they play in emergency management.

This course is suited to:

  • members of an Emergency Management Committee
  • people who are involved or interested in Emergency Management Arrangements in NSW
